Why a shed is not the same job as a bedroom
A steel shed under a Queensland sun is the hardest room in the country to cool. There is no insulation in the walls, the roof radiates all afternoon, and the doors get opened every ten minutes. Size a shed off floor area like it was a bedroom and you will end up with a unit that runs flat out from November and never gets there.
So the sizing conversation is different: what the roof is lined with, whether the walls have a sisalation blanket behind them, which way the roller door faces, and whether you actually want it cold or just want it bearable while you are working.
What we did
Head unit up high in the corner, screwed into the steel frame rather than the sheeting, and angled so the throw runs the length of the shed instead of straight at the opposite wall. Pipework and drain through the wall in one run, and the outdoor unit on brackets clear of the ground — sheds rarely have a flat slab outside worth standing one on.
The electrical side was ours too: a shed almost always needs a circuit run for this, and a sub-board in the shed is either already there or it is a conversation before we quote, not on the day.
