Meet the crewAir Conditioning
When a unit is past fixing, a changeover is simpler than a new install — the hole, the circuit and often the pipework are already there. We take the old one away and leave the wall tidy.

The problem
If one of these is you, you are in the right place. Tell us which one and we will come back with a price.
What we do
Old unit out, new one in, brackets and pipework sorted and the old refrigerant recovered properly. Usually a single day, on the wall you already have.
What's included
Our rule of thumb is simple enough to say on the phone. Under about eight years old and the part is available: repair it. Past twelve, or the fault is the compressor or a leak in the indoor coil: put the money towards a new one instead.
The clearest case is R22, the refrigerant in most systems from the mid-2000s and earlier. It is being phased out in Australia: no new R22 equipment can be imported or made here, bulk imports of the gas stop on 1 January 2030, and after that servicing runs on reclaimed gas only. Your unit is not illegal and it does not have to be replaced — but the gas to fill it gets scarcer and dearer every year, which is why a real leak in an old R22 system is usually money better spent on a new one. We can tell what yours runs from the plate on the outdoor unit.
(That’s a summary of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water’s R22 phase-out information, checked on 23 September 2026. It isn’t legal advice.)
Either way you get both numbers: what the repair would be, and what a replacement would be. Nobody should be told their unit is unfixable by the person selling them the new one without seeing the working.
More than “same hole, new unit”. The bracket comes off, the wall gets patched where the old one sat and the new backing plate goes on properly. The drain is replaced — old drains are where the dripping-down-the-wall calls come from — and the electrical connection and isolator get checked against what the new unit draws.
The existing pipework is the one people assume can stay. Sometimes it can: right size, sound condition, correct for the new refrigerant, and flushed properly. Sometimes it can’t, and running a new R32 system on tired pipework that ran R22 is how you end up with a warranty claim the manufacturer won’t wear. We check and tell you which it is before we quote, not after.
Refrigerant is recovered into a cylinder rather than vented — that is a condition of the ARC licence we hold (#106899), and the right thing to do regardless. The unit, the brackets and the packaging from the new one all go in the van, and the old system goes off to be recycled.
Plenty of our changeovers are on rentals, where a unit has finally given up and the tenant is without air con. Send the job through with the property address and the work order reference and it comes back on one invoice with photos of what was done — the same way everything we do for property managers works.
If the house is being sold, a working unit with a current warranty is a straightforward fix to a building report note. We can usually turn a single-head changeover around in a day once the unit is in.
Air con work like this gets quoted once we know what we are dealing with — the unit, its age, where it sits and what is actually wrong. What we can promise is that you see the number before anyone starts.

The price is the price
If we find something we could not see, you get a call and a revised number — not a bigger invoice at the end.

The good bits
A fixed-speed unit from 2010 is either flat out or off. An inverter holds the room at temperature on a fraction of the power, which is most of the difference you'll see on the bill.
The noise people complain about is usually the old compressor kicking in and out. A new inverter unit ramps instead, and at low fan you have to listen for it.
New systems run R32. Less of it does the same job than the R410A before it, and it is not the gas being phased out — R22, in anything from the mid-2000s, is.
If your unit predates a phone app, this is the upgrade people notice most day to day — the house cooling on the way home instead of after you get there.
Who we work for
Three very different jobs, three different things that matter. Here's how we handle each one.
Someone who turns up when they said, does it properly and tells you the price first.
A sub you can put on the program and forget about. Rough-in to fit-off, on the day.
Fast make-safes, compliance that stands up, and an invoice your system will accept.

Questions
Our rule of thumb: if the unit is under about eight years old and the part is available, repair it. Past twelve, or if the fix is a compressor or a leak in the indoor coil, you are usually better off putting the money towards a new one.
The old R22 systems are the clearest ones. That gas is being phased out in Australia — bulk imports stop on 1 January 2030 and servicing runs on reclaimed gas after that — so a unit that leaks it is getting more expensive to keep alive every year. We tell you which side of the line yours is on and give you both numbers, then you decide.
Yes, and it’s included. The refrigerant is recovered properly rather than vented — that is a legal requirement and an ARC licence condition, not an optional extra — and the unit goes off to be recycled.
Brackets, old pipework and the packaging from the new one go with it. You get the wall patched where the old unit sat, and a bin-free driveway.
Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic and Gree are the ones we put in most. They are the brands with parts on the shelf in Brisbane and technicians who can get them, which matters more than the badge on the front when something goes wrong in five years.
We are not an authorised dealer for any of them and we do not push one over another. Tell us the room and the budget and we will tell you what we would put in our own place.
Two things are covered, by two different people. The unit itself carries the manufacturer’s warranty — Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic and Gree all publish theirs. You register it with the manufacturer, and we leave you the invoice and model details you need to do that.
Our side is the workmanship: brackets, pipework, electrical connection, drains, commissioning. That carries a 5-year workmanship warranty from us. If something we did lets go, we come back and fix it.
Why AWSM
Most jobs need a sparky, an air con bloke, or both. You get both from the same team — one quote, one invoice, nobody to blame.

Dylan and Hayden own the business and turn up to the jobs. The person who quotes it is the person who does it — or the bloke standing next to them.
Meet the crewGear we can get parts for in ten years, not whatever was cheapest this week. If you'd rather supply your own, that's fine too.
