Owners on the tools
Dylan and Hayden own the business and turn up to the jobs. The person who quotes it is the person who does it — or the bloke standing next to them.
Meet the crewAir Conditioning
If it smells musty when it starts up, the filters are not the problem — the coil and the fan barrel behind them are. A bag clean gets to the part a filter rinse never touches.

The problem
If one of these is you, you are in the right place. Tell us which one and we will come back with a price.
What we do
A full bag clean, not a filter rinse. The head comes off the wall and the coil, barrel fan and drain tray get chemically washed, sanitised and pressure tested.
What's included
A catch bag goes up under the indoor unit and the head comes off the wall. Then the parts that matter get chemically washed and flushed out: the evaporator coil, the barrel fan, the drain tray and the drain itself. The water that comes out is usually enough to convince anyone the job was needed.
That is a different job to what most people mean by “servicing”. Pulling the filters out and hosing them off takes five minutes and does help — but the filters are the first thing the air hits, not the last. Everything that gets past them lands on a wet coil in a dark box, which is precisely the place mould likes.
So if the unit smells, or someone in the house has started sneezing when it runs, or you can see black speckling on the vanes at the front, the filters are not where the problem is.
The pressure test is the useful one. A unit that is slowly losing refrigerant cools a bit worse each summer, and most people put that down to it getting old. Testing while we are there means you find out now, when it is a repair, rather than in January when it is an emergency.
We also check the drain runs away properly — blocked drains are where the “it’s dripping on the carpet” jobs come from — and that the electricals at the isolator and the outdoor unit are sound. Both of us are licensed electricians, so if there is something wrong at that end it gets fixed rather than noted.
Autumn or early spring, before you need it. A clean in the middle of a heatwave is a clean you have been waiting three weeks for, because that is when everyone calls. The units we clean in September are the ones that work properly in December.
Once a year suits most houses. Twice for rentals, offices, anything running all day, and places with pets or near the water.
If you manage properties, a clean between tenancies is the cheapest way to avoid the mould complaint that turns into a maintenance request. You get photos and notes on each unit, and they all go on the one invoice with your work order reference on it — same as everything else we do for property managers.
Multiple units at the same address are cheaper per unit, because the setup is the expensive bit and we only do it once.
What you get
Anyone can pull the filters out and hose them off. A bag clean hangs a catch bag under the indoor unit so the coil, the barrel fan and the drain tray get chemically washed and flushed — which is where the mould and the smell actually live.
Per unit
Priced per split system, with a better rate on every extra unit we do at the same visit. You get the number before we book it in.

The good bits
That musty first ten minutes is mould on the barrel fan and coil. Wiping the filters covers it for a week; washing the parts behind them is what actually fixes it.
A coil packed with dust can't shift heat and a furred barrel fan can't move air. Cleaning both is why a serviced unit feels colder without touching the thermostat.
A blocked unit runs longer to reach the same temperature and the compressor works harder to do it. Both of those turn up on the power bill.
Most of what kills a split system early is the stuff we wash out. A clean once a year is the cheapest thing you can do for it.
Who we work for
Three very different jobs, three different things that matter. Here's how we handle each one.
Someone who turns up when they said, does it properly and tells you the price first.
A sub you can put on the program and forget about. Rough-in to fit-off, on the day.
Fast make-safes, compliance that stands up, and an invoice your system will accept.

Questions
Very different. Washing the filters gets the dust off the front. A bag clean hangs a catch bag under the indoor unit so the whole coil and the barrel fan can be chemically cleaned and flushed out — that’s where the mould and the musty smell actually live.
A unit full of grime works harder for less cool air. Cleaning it properly makes it quieter, healthier and cheaper to run.
Once a year for a home, and that is the one most people skip until the unit smells. Somewhere in autumn or early spring is ideal — before the season you actually need it, not in the middle of it.
Rentals, offices and anything running most of the day are usually twice a year. If the house has pets, a smoker, or you’re near the water, a unit fills up quicker than the manual thinks it will.
Probably not. A split system is a sealed system — the refrigerant doesn’t get used up, so if it is low, it has leaked out somewhere. Topping it up without finding the leak means paying for gas twice.
So we pressure test and find the leak first, then tell you what it costs to fix it properly, and what the alternative is if the unit is old enough that it isn’t worth it. Handling refrigerant needs an ARC licence — ours is #106899.
The four we find most: a filthy indoor coil that can’t move any air, a refrigerant leak, a failed capacitor or fan in the outdoor unit, or a control fault that has the system in the wrong mode.
Two of those are cheap and one of them isn’t, which is why we diagnose before we quote. Before you call, try the obvious one — pull the filters out and look at them. If they are furred over, a clean might be the whole job.
Why AWSM
Most jobs need a sparky, an air con bloke, or both. You get both from the same team — one quote, one invoice, nobody to blame.

Dylan and Hayden own the business and turn up to the jobs. The person who quotes it is the person who does it — or the bloke standing next to them.
