Owners on the tools
Dylan and Hayden own the business and turn up to the jobs. The person who quotes it is the person who does it — or the bloke standing next to them.
Meet the crewAir Conditioning
Sick of one room being unliveable from November to March? We size the unit to the room instead of the invoice, install it, wire it, commission it and take the packaging with us.

The problem
If one of these is you, you are in the right place. Tell us which one and we will come back with a price.
What we do
Split systems supplied and installed by the same crew that does the wiring — sized for the room, priced before we start, and the site left clean.
What's included
The first question is always “what size do I need”, and the honest answer is that it depends on more than the floor area. A 4 x 4 bedroom facing east behind a wall of shade is a different job to a 4 x 4 west-facing room with two windows and no eave over them. Ceiling height, insulation, how many people are in there and what the room is used for all move the number.
Get it wrong small and the unit runs flat out all afternoon and never quite gets there, which costs you money and wears the compressor. Get it wrong big and it cools too fast, shuts down, and short-cycles — so the room ends up cold and clammy instead of comfortable, and you paid more for the privilege.
So we measure up, ask what the room is actually used for, and recommend the size that suits. If the smaller one will do the job, we will tell you that, because the one thing worse than an undersized unit is a customer who thinks we upsold them.
The indoor head goes on a backing plate that is fixed into studs, not just into plasterboard. The core hole through the wall is drilled with a fall on it so condensate runs out instead of back in. Pipework, drain and interconnecting cable run inside the wall cavity wherever the house lets us, and in neat ducting where it can’t — not stapled down the render.
Outside, the unit goes on brackets or a stand, level, off the ground, with clearance around it so it can breathe. Somewhere it isn’t going to cook in the afternoon sun if there is a choice, and somewhere it isn’t outside a bedroom window.
Then the electrical side, which is the part most air con crews sub out: a dedicated circuit from the switchboard, an isolator within sight of the unit, everything tested and certified. We are licensed electrical contractors — ECL 91702 — and Hayden holds the ARC refrigerant licence, so the whole job is one crew and one certificate rather than two trades blaming each other.
Last is commissioning. The system gets vacuumed down properly before the gas goes in, pressures and temperatures are checked with gauges, and we run it long enough to see it hold. You get shown how the controller and the timer work, you get the paperwork you need for the manufacturer’s warranty, and the packaging goes in our van.
A split system wants its own circuit. On a newer board with spare ways that’s a small part of the job. On an older board with ceramic fuses, no safety switches and nothing spare, it isn’t — and that’s a conversation that should happen before you have paid a deposit on a unit, not on the morning of the install.
We look at your board when we quote. If it needs a circuit, you will see that on the quote. If it needs an upgrade, you will see that too, with the option to do it on the same visit. Nobody turns up, sucks their teeth at your switchboard and leaves you with a unit in a box.
Send through the room, a photo of the wall you want the head on, and a photo of the outside of that wall and of your switchboard. That is usually enough for us to give you a number without a site visit. If it isn’t, we will come and look — and either way the price is in writing before anyone picks up a drill.
The range
Four sizes cover most of what we get asked for. Each one is quoted as an installed price — unit, bracket, pipework, electrical connection, commissioning and the rubbish taken away — so the number you are given is the number you pay.

What every install includes
What costs extra, and when
None of it is a surprise: if your job needs one of these, it is on the written quote before anyone starts.
The good bits
Everything we install is an inverter unit. It holds the temperature by slowing down rather than banging on and off, which is why the running cost and the noise are both lower.
Most of the range takes a Wi-Fi module, so you can turn the bedroom on from the car. We set it up and connect it to your network while we are there.
A modern head unit at low fan is quieter than a ceiling fan. Where the outdoor unit goes matters too, so we place it away from bedroom windows and your neighbour's.
The current refrigerant across all four brands we install. Less of it does the same work, and its global warming potential is about a third of the old R410A.
Who we work for
Three very different jobs, three different things that matter. Here's how we handle each one.
Someone who turns up when they said, does it properly and tells you the price first.
A sub you can put on the program and forget about. Rough-in to fit-off, on the day.
Fast make-safes, compliance that stands up, and an invoice your system will accept.
How it works
Tell us what needs doing. Photos help.
Within a business day, from Dylan or Hayden.
A price in writing before anyone touches a tool.
You pick a day that works and we turn up on it.
Questions
It depends on the room size, the ceiling height, the insulation, how much glass there is and which way the room faces. A west-facing lounge with big windows needs more than a bedroom of the same size.
Undersized and it runs flat out and never gets there; oversized and it short-cycles and costs you more. We measure up and tell you what suits, rather than selling you the biggest one.
A standard back-to-back install — indoor head on the wall, outdoor unit straight through the other side — is usually half a day. A couple of heads, a longer pipe run, a two-storey job or a new circuit off the switchboard takes the day.
We give you a start time rather than a window, and we put drop sheets down. When it’s finished we run it up, check the temperatures and show you how the controller works before we leave.
Back-to-back means the outdoor unit sits directly behind the indoor head, on the other side of the same wall. The pipework goes straight through, which is the shortest run and the least labour.
If the outdoor unit has to go around the corner, down the side of the house or up onto a roof, that is extra pipe, extra cable and extra time. It is not hidden — we look at where everything can go before we quote, and the price you get already has your house in it.
Sometimes. A split system needs its own circuit and an isolator, and an older board with no spare ways or no safety switches can’t give it one without work.
This is where a sparky installing your air con beats an air con bloke who has to call one. We check the board as part of quoting the job, and if it needs a circuit or an upgrade that is on the same quote — one crew, one day, one invoice.
Two things are covered, by two different people. The unit itself carries the manufacturer’s warranty — Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic and Gree all publish theirs. You register it with the manufacturer, and we leave you the invoice and model details you need to do that.
Our side is the workmanship: brackets, pipework, electrical connection, drains, commissioning. That carries a 5-year workmanship warranty from us. If something we did lets go, we come back and fix it.
Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic and Gree are the ones we put in most. They are the brands with parts on the shelf in Brisbane and technicians who can get them, which matters more than the badge on the front when something goes wrong in five years.
We are not an authorised dealer for any of them and we do not push one over another. Tell us the room and the budget and we will tell you what we would put in our own place.
Splits are cheaper to buy, cheaper to run one room at a time, and each head is its own system — if one dies the rest of the house is still cool. The trade-off is a head unit on the wall of every room you want done, and an outdoor unit for each one.
Ducted gives you one controller, vents instead of wall units and nothing to look at outside except a single outdoor unit. With zoning you only pay to cool the rooms you are in. It costs more up front and it needs the roof space to do it.
Doing three or more rooms is usually where ducted starts making sense. We will tell you honestly which way we would go in your house.
Why AWSM
Most jobs need a sparky, an air con bloke, or both. You get both from the same team — one quote, one invoice, nobody to blame.

Dylan and Hayden own the business and turn up to the jobs. The person who quotes it is the person who does it — or the bloke standing next to them.
Meet the crewGear we can get parts for in ten years, not whatever was cheapest this week. If you'd rather supply your own, that's fine too.
