Why not just air condition it?

Because you can’t, sensibly. A warehouse with roller doors that open all day and a steel roof is not a room you refrigerate — you would be paying to cool the car park. What you can do is move the air, and a high-volume low-speed fan does that with one motor turning slowly instead of a bank of small fans screaming at the ceiling.

The effect on the floor is a few degrees of felt temperature, which is the number that matters to someone working under it. In winter the same fan run in reverse pushes the warm air back down off the roof instead of leaving it sitting up there.

What the install involves

Mounting is the serious part. A fan this size hangs off the structure, not the roof sheets, so the fixing goes to the portal frame or purlins with the manufacturer’s bracket and a safety cable. Everything above head height happens off a scissor lift, which is also where the supply gets run to the controller.

Then it is ours to wire, commission and hand over: a dedicated circuit, an isolator, and the speed controller somewhere a person can actually reach. Same crew for the mechanical and the electrical, which on a commercial site means one lot of paperwork and one number to ring.
